The Gate (1987)

I fell asleep halfway through, woke up after the credits (the DVD menu was looping), switched the player off, and went to sleep. The DVD has been sent back to Netflix without a re-watch.

  2. I know, I know. I'm going against the grain here. But I made it a tad past the levitation scene and that was it for me. Perhaps one day I will turn again to The Gate...

  3. This is one of those that lives in my memory as a wonderful horror flick when I was a kid. Probably best to leave it there, but it was one of those formative movies for me. I think you can slip this in with The Monster Squad and let any twlve year old geek out on it. Plus, it has a very bleak turn at the third act I really like.

  4. I'll give it another whirl sometime, although it seems like (as Bo pointed out) the common factor among people who herald the film a masterpiece saw it when they were kids. Have I missed out on the proper time in my life to get the full effect from this movie?!

  5. I saw this movie for the first time about two years ago, so do not despair.

Also, I'm not doolally about The Goonies, which pisses people off to no end. I don't even dislike it, I'm just not driven wild by it, and even this seems to prompt anger in people.

  6. Ahhh, the subjectivity of movie-watching! I watched The Goonies as a young chap and it freaked me out.
