What is great about this movie? It has become a rule to use this "twist" in nearly every mainstream psychological thriller out there, so why the emphasis on the so-called mindbending twist the movie boasts? Everything pointed toward the ending, e.g. the disjointed perspective of the protagonist; and if you've seen one, you've seen 'em all. So, help me if I'm missing something. Perhaps you can sway me to watch this one again. Or perhaps you agree that this is mediocre at best. (And, yes, I realize that this is not a horror movie, though it was marketed as such.)
I will not help you, because you're not misguided in your opinion. It is mediocre *at best* and ultimately a big stinking disappointment. I came out of this film pretty pissed off, especially as the opening 30 mins or so were excellent. It sucks.

ReplyDeleteI would call it above average, only because I think Scorsese does some interesting things with the visuals and the idea of audience expectations. I enjoyed the ride, but it's a minor Scorsese work. I get the folks you didn't dig it at all, however. It's a hard movie to defend, but it does stick very close to the novel, for what it's worth (not much).
