Fifteen minutes in I was sleeping like a baby. Obviously, a slow build with this one. I'll try to watch it tonight or tomorrow night. Anyone else seen this one yet? Does it pick up a little?
(Two days go by.)
Well, I just finished this proclaimed masterpiece, and I am left with nothing good to say. Perhaps this would've made a better book--the "visual" aspect of cinema was not utilized at all. Nothing happened save for constant dialogue, a few quick flashbacks, and an out-of-nowhere slicing (is this the "intense" moment alluded to by the comment below?).
It's hard to say this about a movie from Funny Games director Michael Haneke, but this is a severe disappointment not worth the time.
This one is definitely a slow-burn. I will say, though, that if you can manage to actually get into it and not be bored, you'll witness some of the most tense scenes you've ever seen in a film. The rest of the film maintains a sluggish pace so if you're not in the mood for something like that then I would suggest watching something else.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen this yet, but have heard nothing but great things, so I would give it a shot.
ReplyDeleteit was alright, but it does have a slow pace pretty much throughout.

thanks! :)
It's a little creepy and takes a bit of time to get going. But hey its French, what did you expect? It's like Funny Games distant cousin.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was decent.
Jaded - I don't know, man. I mean, I realize that most French cinema has a slow build; but the films usually "build" to something, even if it is left open-ended. This never really "built" to anything. Funny Games was much better.
ReplyDeleteBut, you know, perhaps I need to rewatch this now that I've seen it once. I can honestly say that some of my favorite movies are the movies I hated the first time through.
I will stay away from it lol. Funny Games looked kinda lame... it was actually good?
