People have been telling me about
Ginger Snaps for a long time--well, since its release in 2000 at least. Finally, nine years later, I have seen this gem; and I can say that I had a blast! The two sisters are brilliant little actresses who pull you into their macabre world. I haven't seen a lot of werewolf movies, but this was a good take on the genre in my opinion.
LOVE THIS MOVIE....
ReplyDeleteWatch the sequel too. There's a third film--it's okay, but the sequel is good. Another good up-to-date werewolf film: Dog Soldiers.
ReplyDeletePamela - Thanks for stopping by! I've got the sequel in my Netflix queue, and I have just added Dog Soldiers. I see you have written some horror short stories and a book on Richmond, VA hauntings. I'd love to check some of your work out--I'm an aspiring writer, Lit. grad student, and originally from VA, myself!
ReplyDeleteExcellent, glad you grabbed this one Chris, one of my all time favs! It deserves its cult status, it is smart, funny, and an excellent slash original take on the werewolf mythos! Wait til you see the sequels, a whole lot of WTF is in order, they are nothing like the original (which isnt necessarily bad)
ReplyDeleteAs for the werewolf sub-genre, you have to do the requisite back-to-back viewing of American Werewolf in London and The Howling. I'm afraid that is the rule.
ReplyDeleteBo - I have added these movies in the proper order. Thus begins my werewolf genre education!
ReplyDeleteYou get your wolfs' bane merit badge after that!
