The Devil's Rejects (2005)

Man. Where to start? First off, I do agree that this is much better than House of 1,000 Corpses. Zombie seemed to find a groove and carried it through with taut execution. That said, I also consider this a good flick without the juxtaposition of its predecessor. We got better production value, better gore, better acting, more of the humor I loved from the first installment. And on top of it all, I got to point out more than a few familiar faces from Zombie's Halloween remake, which I had seen prior to either of these movies. My only gripe would be the gratuitous posterior shots, but, hey, it's a cult horror movie. Great work!

  1. I have not been brave enough to check this one out yet. I really liked HALLOWEEN. But, I really hated HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES. I like gratuitous posterior shots... So, I will give it a rent!

  2. JM - Well, I went into it with a predisposition of hating it, and I ended up loving it. You'll have a blast. That last remark was sarcasm...I don't have any gripes!

  3. You can't blame Zombie for loving his wife's posterior, can you?

    Glad you liked it. :)

  4. Becky - Definitely not. That's one thing Zombie and I have in common (I'm speaking about my own wife here, not Zombie's)!

  5. Devil's Rejects probably has the best use of Freebird in a horror movie ever.

  6. Oh man, I feel like after a really good day, I'm sat here disagreeing with everyone on blog after blog. I'm not doing it on purpose, honest.

Well, I hated this movie so much, I turned it off. Or, rather, I hated the opening 20 mins so much, I turned it off. Maybe it got better...

  7. GGG - What caused you to turn it off? Remember, you are never judged by the horror community. We accept every fan, regardless of opinion!

  8. Thanks for not judging - I work in a field where the more harshly you criticize, the more successful you seem to be. It can be quite stressful...

I turned it off because I felt like it was unnecessarily nasty and mean spirited in terms of rape etc. I know, obviously it's supposed to be nasty, and I watch gross movies all the time (obviously), but there was something about this one that really turned my stomach, and not in the same way as somehting like I Spit On Your Grave (which I think is an excellent movie). I dunno - I got this nauseating feeling, and the person I was with agreed, and so we turned it off. I didn't feel that way about 1000 Corpses though.
